There are so many lovely places to choose from in Filey it was a tough job to narrow it down but, now that things are starting to open back up, we have given it a go…so here are our selections for the Best Places To Eat In Filey.

The places listed here are ones that we have tried and tested ourselves and have also been given the big thumbs up from our guests, visitors to Filey and locals too. And the best bit? If you stay at Glenview House, these are all walking distance so no need to get in the car and the whole party can enjoy a tipple or two!

One tip, always ring and book your table in advance. Even without Covid restrictions in place, most of these restaurants are small, family run businesses and get busy during peak holiday times. It is usually advisable to book up to a week in advance of your planned trip.

Born out of a love of gin and hospitality, this place is ideal for starting your evening with a drink at the bar, sampling some of the wonderful pizzas and then staying a while longer into the evenings. The Billy Goat pizza is one of the my favourites or try the Filey Bay pizza for something a bit different.

Absolutely brilliant yet again. Cannot fault the food, drink, value, service. Been coming here for over 20 years. We love it, and under the new owner it is the best yet. Staff treat guests like friends. Book it…. worth every penny!

The White Lodge has the most spectacular views, a wonderful atmosphere and feels just that little bit special for a celebration. Put on some nice clothes, heels and make up and enjoy the wonderful food and service on offer. Or head down on a Friday or Saturday to enjoy a Bottomless Brunch & Bubbles…what could feel more like a holiday than that alongside the sea views!

Visited for first time last night despite coming to Filey nearly every month. The food was amazing! Freshly cooked and really tasty.

Home cooked, lovingly served traditional Italian food is on the menu at San Marco. Happy hour from 5pm – 6pm works brilliantly for those with younger families. Everyone has their own favourite Italian dish and San Marco are sure to do it well – mine is always the lasagne.

As always excellent fish and chips, over the years you have never let us down. Even better when you go to the top and eat them while looking down on Filey. We regularly come from Withernsea just to get fish and chips get back in the car and go home but they are so worth it.

It’s not easy to choose the best Fish and Chip shop with so many on offer in Filey. We have always enjoyed Inghams because the fish is just so fresh and the curry sauce is to die for!

We absolutely love this place. Always a warm welcome, and prompt and friendly service. It has a lovely relaxed atmosphere and they serve an impressive range. Highly recommended!

Breakfast, Lunch, Afternoon Tea, Scones, Tea or Coffee, whatever you want is freshly baked and served with a wonderful smile. Locally sourced ingredients are used and there are a range of gluten free options available too.

A Holiday Your Dog Will Enjoy Too

Glenview House provides an awesome pet-friendly home for your holiday in Filey with your dog. With an enclosed garden, dog bed and bowl provided and located right opposite Glen Gardens Park your dog(s) will be in their element. And that’s before we’ve even mentioned that it’s only a 5 minute pedestrianised stroll to 4 beautiful miles of dog friendly Filey Beach.

Here are some of our favourite things to do with our dog:

Walks

We all know how much dogs love walks. Getting out into large open spaces and exploring the wonders of nature are what dogs live for.

And Filey is the starting point for some incredible walking trails…

Cleveland Way

The Cleveland Way boasts 109 miles of stunning scenery and is one of England’s Original National Trails. The trail goes from Filey Brigg, all the way up through Scarborough, Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby and then inland through the Yorkshire Dales before finishing in Helmsley. The entire route would take 9 days or more to complete but the section from Filey Brigg to Cayton Bay and back is around a 3 hour walk.

There is so much to explore on this trail for you and your dog!

Wolds Way

The Wolds Way starts at Cobble Landing in Filey and covers 79 miles through some beautiful, tranquil countryside. This is a gentle, subtle route suitable for most abilities. See if you can spot the hares on the ground and the red kites in the sky…before your dog does!

The Beach

Filey Beach

Filey Beach is absolutely brilliant for dogs. From Royal Parade in Filey – a short 5 minutes walk from Glenview House – there are 4 miles of sandy beach.

When the tide is out, the expanse of beach is so wide, your dog(s) will love the space to run around. It is perfect for throwing the ball around and playing games with your best furry friends.

From October to March, the restrictions in the middle section of Filey Beach are lifted too so you can walk all the way out to Cobble Landing and on to the rock pools beneath Filey Brigg.

The Cobblers Arms is a great Micro Pub in Filey with an excellent selection of beers, quiz night and live music. Dogs aren’t just allowed in here they are welcomed and fussed over.

The Coffee Shed

An awesome cup of coffee, breakfast, lunch or a sweet treat, this lovely coffee shop has it all and plenty of space for you and your family, including your pooch.

Cobble Bar & Bistro

The Beach, Cobble Landing, YO14 9LF

Cobble Bar and Bistro boasts some excellent views of Filey Beach and has a varied menu of offer to suit all tastes. You can take your dog with you too, useful if you’ve been for a walk on the beach.

The Sugar Cube (Tea Room)

17 Church Street, YO14 9ED

Fancy a cup of tea and a slice of cake? Pop into the The Sugar Cube with your dog and you will not only get a warm welcome but a lovely sweet treat too! Some lovely reviews for this Tea Room which is voted number 1 in Filey.

Bronte Vinery (Cafe)

Lovely selection of food here including vegetarian and a children’s menu. Check out the 200 year old vine running all along the ceiling.

Coming to Filey with young children is exciting because there is a chance for them to really get to see and enjoy the many aspects of nature that the Yorkshire Coast is home to. Sharing those first moments with the young ones is truly one of life’s pleasures!

We are approaching September and October quickly and these autumn months are two of the best to visit Filey. The older children are at school and families with younger children can enjoy the milder weather.

Here are our Top 5 things to do with toddlers in and around Filey.

1 The Beach

Of course the number one thing to do with your little ones in Filey is go to the beach! When the tide is out, the soft sand expands far and wide. This provides lots of safe space for your little one to run around, build sand castles and jump in sandy puddles.

Filey Beach is particularly great at providing something for everyone. If you have dogs, the 4 mile section beyond Royal Parade is dog friendly all year round. If you prefer to not have dogs around, the middle section (Royal Parade to Cobble Landing) has restrictions from April to October.

For the little ones, near Cobble Landing there is a fab little traditional Fun Fair with a bouncy castle and Merry-Go-Round.

And the seafront is dotted with great Fish and Chip shops, cafes and ice-cream parlours.

2 Glen Gardens

Just above the beach – and opposite Glenview House – is Glen Gardens. It has a lovely playground ideal for toddlers as well as a trampoline, boating lake, crazy golf and a café for when they get hungry.

In the past, we have managed to spend half the day at Glen Gardens and then had to negotiate with the children to leave (they are tough negotiators!)

3 Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park

The Filey Bird Garden and Animal Park is ideal for something a little bit different for the children. It is just the right size, not too big or too small, for little legs to wander round and see the Donkeys, Pigs, Alpacas, Goats, Giant Rabbits, Guinea Pigs and many more. There are also a number of wildlife habitats around the park to attract birds, bats, hedgehogs and butterflies – see if your little ones can spot any!

There is a café and also picnic tables in case hunger strikes during your visit.

If you are staying at dog-friendly Glenview House with your pet, this is an attraction where you can take your furry friend with you. And if you needed any further convincing about just how family friendly this venue is, even the car park is free!

4 Playdale Farm Park

Playdale Farm Park in Cayton is a 20 minute drive from Glenview House and well worth a visit.

With an outdoor play area and a range of animals to see and feed, there is plenty to occupy your toddlers here.

With Sheep, Ponies, Llamas, Chicks and Chipmunks to see as well as a Summer Sledge Run, Frisbee Golf Course and Pedal Go Kart, you might even get a rest when they fall asleep on the way home!

5 Alpamare Water Park

15 mins in the car gets you to the new Alpamare Water Park in Scarborough. This facility is open all year round, has both indoor and outdoor areas and, best of all, under 6’s go in for free!

In normal times, there is a Spa and even a toddler session on a Friday morning which is a bit calmer for the little ones. This year, it would be wise to check the Alpamare Water Park website as Covid-19 has changed how Alpamare is operating a little.

And finally, if you happen to get inclement weather, and don’t fancy venturing out, Glenview House has everything you need for a great day in!

In our last post, we told you all about the Baby and Toddler Friendly Features at Glenview House.

There is a lovely garden to kick a ball about it, let the kids play with the mud kitchen while you have a cuppa, play a board game, read a book or set them doing some colouring.

And of course, there is always the Smart TV with unlimited WiFi if you need it!

Bring your Toddlers to Glenview House in Filey!

As parents of two toddlers, we know exactly what packing for holidays is like and how much stuff you end up having to take with you! So, when setting up Glenview House, we have tried to make it as comfortable and easy for you and your little ones as possible.

A change is as good as a rest...but how about both!

One of the most important things to try and achieve for a good holiday is a little bit of extra sleep! That is why we have equipped Glenview House with Blackout Blinds or Blackout Curtains in every bedroom. It will help to keep the little ones asleep as well as yourselves!

We have also provided a wooden cot for the smallest members of your family as well as two travel cots should you need them.

And if you have slightly older children who are getting used to an adult bed, we have bed guards available so you don’t have to bring those with you.

Dine and play together as a family

When it comes to dining together, we provide two high chairs and even a bouncy chair if you have a baby in your party.

In the garden, we have a decked area and a lawn all of which is fully
enclosed making it safe your children and pets. And if you want a bit
of peace and quiet, there is an awesome Mud Kitchen for the kids to play
with while you rest on the cushions and relax.

Taking your kids to the beach

If you are venturing out, Glenview House has pram-friendly access with no steps and the pathway to the beach is pedestrianised and smooth, ideal for taking the buggy down.

The path leads to Royal Parade – on the right of the slipway is 3 miles of beach which is dog friendly all year round and on the left is a section that has restrictions during the summer months.

Filey beach has wide stretches of smooth sand making it safe for play and digging the biggest sand castles when the tide is out.

It has even been described as a “perfect beach for kids to explore”

Along the promenade you can get some lunch at the café and then pop over to the ice-cream shop for a nice treat afterwards.

Plenty to do in the park

And if you fancy a change from the beach or need to occupy the children for an hour or so, Glenview House is set opposite Glen Gardens Park which has a playground, café, boating lake, trampolines and crazy golf.

And finally, if you happen to want to spend a day indoors, Glenview House has WiFi connected to the Smart TV, board games and even a bed for your furry friends.

In 2020 more people than ever will stay in the UK for their holiday break. If you are searching for the best place for you, take a look at Filey…

Filey could be just what you are looking for to enjoy time away with the family

For the last few years, we have been visiting Filey during the months of September, October and November and it is one of the best times to come and enjoy the coast.

Obviously if you have school-aged children in your family then that could specifically mean the October half term holidays but these autumn months are some of the best to visit Filey.

Not too hot, not too cold... just right for the little ones

Firstly, the weather is still pretty good and if you happen to have toddlers like we do, these months provide the most convenient weather of all!

In the peak summer months, we have to find shady spots, slather them in suncream and limit our time out in the heat.

In Autumn, we can wrap them up appropriately (they never seem to feel the cold!), usually don’t need sticky suncream and can stay out as long as we want to.

Plenty to do...but not too busy or crowded

Just as importantly, all the attractions are still open and ready to be enjoyed…but everything is that little bit quieter. Perhaps something that is more important this year than ever.

A quieter Filey beach provides a wonderful setting for a long walk…maybe even a run! Taking in that fresh coastal air is a joy in itself. You don’t even have to be up that early in the autumn months to enjoy a beautiful sunrise!

Or take a visit into Filey Town where you can amble along and explore the quant shops at your own pace.

And of course you always have the option for a trip beyond Filey to explore some of North Yorkshires’ other delightful places.

Finally, when it comes to parking during the autumn months, it is less stressful and easier to find around Filey and further along the coast!

Oh I Do Like To Be Beside The Sea – How Does Covid-19 Affect My Holiday?

UK Holidays during Covid-19 are about balancing the health and safety of everyone whilst having an enjoyable time away. At Glenview House we are committed to helping you do just that

Who could ever have predicted the situation we find ourselves in? Covid-19, pandemic, lockdown…words most of us had hardly used before!

We are supremely pleased to be able to open our doors as the country begins to lift some of the restrictions that are in place (see latest guidance). And how wonderful it is to be beside the sea!

For all our guests who have already booked their stay at Glenview House and for those who are considering it, I wanted to share with you some information about the things we are doing to keep you, and the local community in Filey, safe and healthy.

Cleanliness is more important Than Ever!

Firstly, and perhaps obviously, we continue to uphold our impeccable standard of cleaning services in between stays. I feel very lucky to have FBHL Cleaning managing our cleans. Their professionalism and attention to detail is superb and they have been incredibly efficient at working through their planning for this period of time. Due to Covid-19, there are a few extra things that will be happening to help ensure everyone’s safety:

All cleaning staff will have Personal Protective Equipment (goggles, gloves and masks). This is to make sure that you are kept safe and also that the cleaning companies employees are protected.
All surfaces will be cleaned with disinfectant spray which kills 99.9% of the bacteria including high risk areas such as door handles, light switches, remote controls and keylock and keys.
Bedding and towels are freshly laundered for each guest at a high temperature as always and diluted disinfectant will be used as air freshener around the holiday home including on all soft furnishings.
Guests will be left a labelled bag to place all bed linen in on departure, used or not. This is to give additional help and support to our cleaners.
Any belongings left in the holiday home after guests have left will be removed. We will unfortunately be unable to keep any lost property during this time so please check the house carefully before check out.
To ensure that there is sufficient time to take these extra cleaning steps and to ensure there is no overlap between our guests and staff, we have had to move our check in time to 6pm and check out to 9.30am. We will keep reviewing these timings throughout this period and endeavour to revert to normal as soon as it is practical to do so.

With these processes in place, we are happy to say that we have achieved the Visit England ‘We’re Good To Go’ recognition. This is given to businesses that have put the appropriate COVID risk assessment, procedures and cleaning processes in place to keep our guests and communities safe.

We want to make sure we do everything we can to keep you safe so that you can book with confidence!

Some Helpful Tips if you are coming to Filey

In addition to this, and to ensure that our country continues to beat this virus, there are some things to consider:

Tesco and Sainsburys both deliver to Glenview House. This would help ease the pressure on local supermarkets for produce and also protect you and the local community from coming into contact with any potential virus spread. It also saves space in the car when you travel to Filey - major bonus!! If you have booked your holiday already, it is worth booking your delivery slot well in advance to get the time and date you want.
We will provide you with hand wash and some cleaning products for the house but it might be worth adding hand sanitiser/face masks to your shop too.
If you are approaching Filey beach from any of the slipways, please remember to maintain social distance. It is possible there may be queues to get on to the beach at busy times.
If you have any symptoms of coronavirus immediately prior to your holiday, please stay at home so that you do not endanger other people.
If at any time you feel unwell, have a temperature, persistent cough or lose your sense of taste/smell whilst you are in Filey, please contact 5leys on 07702 262 509.

Our Journey to Opening Our Doors

Welcome to
Glenview House

It is with great pleasure and excitement that we open the doors of Glenview House to our first guests this summer!

It has been quite a journey to get here filled with love, laughter, sweat, two toddlers, a dog and a false start caused by the pandemic.

My husband and his family have a long history of time spent in and around Filey with holidays here every year, creating beautiful memories of their childhood.

So, there was no doubt in our minds that Glenview House would be the perfect place to create a Holiday Let for others to do the same.

We began renovating the property to prepare it for guests last year and have tried to create a relaxing, tasteful, elegant and social home for you to enjoy. It was no mean feat with the kids and dog, work and family all pulling us in different directions.

Teamwork Makes The Dream Work

With an amazing team helping us – Kerry and Caroline at 5leys, Ben at FBHL Cleaning and Roland Eyre in particular – we were ready to go.

We have been working with 5leys on this project from the very beginning. Kerry who runs the Holiday Letting Agency is not only an excellent business woman but also a lovely human being. She knows Filey incredibly well and looks after all our guests with care and attention.

Kerry introduced us to Ben who runs FBHL Cleaning and alongside his wonderful team, they have stepped up to the challenge of cleaning a four bedroom, 3 storey house whilst leaving no stone unturned!

And the fabulous Roland Eyre is the man everybody wants in their lives – he has always been on hand to complete every job required, nothing too small or too big and always completely reliable.

Locked Down But Not Locked Out

We had our first guests booked in for April but then lockdown happened and we all had to pause. It was disappointing of course, but more important for everyone was to keep people safe and for us that included holiday makers, the team and of course the people of Filey.

Glenview House is now set to welcome its first guests and we can’t wait for you to enjoy the house, and Filey, as much as we always have.
